Lionel Messi helps PSG win historic title as they win the Ligue 1 for the 11th time

As Paris Saint-Germain sealed an 11th Ligue 1 title, Messi scored his 496th goal in Europe’s top five leagues, surpassing Ronaldo’s previous record of 495 goals.

The Argentine latched onto Kylian Mbappé’s perfectly weighted cross and found the back of the net to give PSG a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute against Strasbourg.

The victory also marked the first time in league history that PSG has sat at the top of the table from the first round of matches until the last, a run that stretches back to the third round of the 2021/22 season and 73 consecutive matches.

At the end of the day, though, coach Christophe Galtier bagged his second-ever league title after getting crowned at Lille in 2021 and doubling down on his exploits this time with PSG. The man couldn't help himself, though, feeling so entitled by the accolade.

It's been more than ten years since the arrival of QSI and Nasser Al-Khelaifi in the French capital. After failing to win the league in their first attempt (second-place finish in 2012), PSG have gone on to win nine of the next 11 Ligue 1 championships.
